Uranus in Taurus – New Values

Granted, this is an astrological transit that has been occurring since March 5, 2019 but it’s effects are still as pertinent, for Uranus travels through each sign for about seven years. We’ve only just begun to experience the craziness that is Uranus in Taurus.

Uranus is an electric powerhouse that disrupts any congregation. Taurus is all about congregation; it is the personification of solidity, material form, and even the earth itself. When these two energies collide, our values, traditions, and resources experience a sudden change. There is usually a banking crisis as Taurus rules finances as well. In addition, we can expect drastic weather changes and even earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.

During this transit, we feel a need to gain independence by discarding old paradigms, with Uranus being impulsive and trigger-happy due to its prior trip through Aries. As Uranus passes through the most fiery sign, we see the beginnings of a rebellion, or a leader becoming unpopular or being overthrown. This of course sparks the change of deep-rooted values and laws we see taking place as Uranus then enters Taurus.

To really make sense of what to expect, we have the luxury of seeing what has occurred in previous cycles. Uranus takes about 84 years to travel around the zodiac, so we go back about 84 years and observe what happened the last few times it traveled through Taurus. We can also note events that happened slightly prior while Uranus passed through Aries.

Previous Uranus in Taurus Cycles

June 6, 1934 – May 15, 1942: This period was marked by Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party’s rise to power in Germany in 1933. Only two days later, Franklin D. Roosevelt denied Herbert Hoover a second term. Both these men changed their countries at the core (FDR removing the United States from the gold standard; Hitler becoming a despot), disrupting long-held values within their nations. Roosevelt’s decision brought about the Great Depression, which created the financial environment prosperous for the Nazi Party.

July 8, 1850 – March 14, 1859: Slavery was a huge issue in the United States for most of the 1850’s, sparking the division between the Northern and Southern states. Debate on the morality of slavery started to climax, leading to the passage of several laws and acts including the Compromise of 1850 introduced by Henry Clay to avoid a possible civil war. The more radical party wins the Civil War. Abraham Lincoln, president during the end of the Civil War, is then murdered at a theater (sudden death of leader).

May 3, 1767 – April 8, 1775: The British colonies in North America decided to break away from the English homeland and become a sovereign nation. This was marked by the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, a rebellious document (Uranus entering Gemini) which detailed the abuses of King George III as the reasons for succession.

[Another important astrological placement during the American Revolution was Pluto in Capricorn. Pluto is the planet of change, transformation, upheavals and unconscious urges, while the sign Capricorn represents the establishment, government, tradition, and structure. This high octane, trans-personal combination, Uranus in Taurus and Pluto in Capricorn, is what we are experiencing today. This means the United States is experiencing its Pluto return, which happens about every 248 years! The Pluto return is no joke, and not many nations have survived such a transit. Will the United States be sucked into another bloody altercation, or perhaps is there a more peaceful, wholesome way we can handle this energy? Only you and I can make that choice!]

May 21, 1683 – April 28, 1691: The Glorious Revolution occurred as King James II of England attempted to increase the influence of Catholicism in English affairs. Instead he incurred the wrath of other nobles and England was invaded by a union between English Parliamentarians and a Dutch stadtholder, William III. This led to Catholicism being ostracized in England, along with the formation of the Bill of Rights 1689 which would bar the monarch from holding absolute power over the common folk.

As we can see, there are several ways this energy can manifest, but unfortunately many of our ancestors resorted to a violent resistance to the norms and their government. This is probably because Uranus experiences its fall in the sign of Taurus. The eccentric, innovative and humanitarian sentiments of the genius are forced to clash with the resourceful, steady and dependable norms his or her society.

Not everyone is open-minded enough to ride the new wave, and some will defend their comfortable, reliable traditions by any means necessary. This battle of the new versus the old can devolve rather quickly from finger pointing to name calling, to fist fighting, eventually leading to choosing sides and armed attacks. Just look at the brief accounts of Uranus in Taurus above. Just look at the framed stories that mass media portrays of the two clown “parties” in government reaching new heights of disappointing and embarrassing human behavior.

Surely this does not have to be the case for us! We live in a time where information is available to anyone curious enough to ask the right questions. Well, by looking at the personal journeys we made while Uranus was in Aries, we can avoid being swept into the confusion of mob mentality/hive-mindedness that mass media is trying its best to conjure and maintain. This is about personal magic, about finding our unique powers through the breakthrough of old paradigms to achieve our own personal freedom.

For each individual, the journey is different. But a few key questions can help guide us. Consider these questions for the time when Uranus was in Aries, from March 11, 2011 to March 6, 2019:

How did you strive to achieve your independence?

What is your story of breaking away from patterns that kept your true self silent?

How has your perception of self changed?

The answer to these questions will be your guide for the next seven years as Uranus bulldozes through Taurus. Some personal personal advice: do not let anyone try to deter you from gaining your freedom, especially if you were born during Pluto’s transit through Scorpio from 1983 to 1995. We are the generation bringing deep change to society, and if we let comfort or fear stop us from bringing that message, the planet misses out on receiving that energy; the Earth “forgets” that memory and there will be debts to pay for ignoring our calling.

That is not to say that other generations don’t have their own messages to bring either. The point is that during this time we all have to make a huge decision: whether to continue with an inefficient system or to wake up to the truth of our planet and start taking responsibility and creating a loving world.

The choice is ours.
