The zodiac is a circle of space surrounding the Earth, a belt in the heavens about fifteen degrees wide. It shows the path of the Sun through the sky. It is along this apparent path (called the ecliptic) that the planets travel along their own orbits, from west to east, going through all twelve signs in order from Aries to Pisces. Each of the twelve signs is divided into 30° equally, totaling 360°.

Each sign has its own unique influence on character. The Aries ram charges in headfirst and thinks about it later. Leo the lion is regal and quiet at his best, yet loud and vain at his worst. The Libran scales symbolize a balanced and refined view. The ancients made it very easy for us to remember what qualities to expect from each sign.
